LIKE YOURSELF AND ENJOY LIFE MORE

Many times a person's enjoyment of life is directly related to his or her feelings about oneself.

You have to like yourself before you can relate to and interact with other people. How can other people like you if you don't even like yourself?

Let me make it perfectly clear. When I talk of "liking" oneself, I'm not referring to self-serving, egotistical thinking, where one's attitude is, "I'm the greatest and everyone else is beneath me." That type of thinking can only lead to a life of self-delusion and loneliness.

In order to like yourself, you've got to know who you are. Unfortunately, many people go through life as almost complete strangers to themselves. They don't take the time to know themselves, their abilities and real virtues.

Take the time to know yourself. We all have good points. Identify your good points and constantly reinforce them in your mind. Be proud of yourself and your talents. Whatever we think of most and hold in our minds on a continuous basis will tend to manifest itself in our behavior and attitudes.

The following are some suggestions that, by talking to yourself about, can help you like yourself more:

Give Yourself Compliments When you do anything good, compliment yourself.

Accept Compliments From Others Like a fine wine, savor compliments from others. Never say, Oh, it was really nothing. Say, Thank you!

Never Compare Yourself To Others As long as you are giving any endeavor your "best shot," that's all that counts!

Live By Your Own Moral Standards As individuals, we have different ways of viewing right and wrong. What may be right for one person may not necessarily be right for another. The important thing is to do what's right for you and what you believe in.

Forgive Yourself We all make mistakes. When you breach your own principles, "screw something up," do something you regret, don't dwell on it; acknowledge what you did wrong. Learn from your mistakes and totally forgive yourself.

Use This Affirmation "I like myself. I'm a winner." Say it with feeling and emotion on a continual basis, especially when you get up and before you go to bed.

As long as you respect and do nothing to hurt others, "bragging" to your inner mind about your strengths and virtues will lead to you and others liking yourself more.
